Valérie Fourneyron, former Minister for Sports et Young Citizens
Valérie Fourneyron began her career as a sport and exercise medicine doctor at Rouen hospital. She quickly joined the Ministry for Sports, and practiced as a doctor for many teams and individual athletes of high level.
It was only in 1995 that she made her debut in politics. Initially a sports assistant for Rouen City council, she pursued a political career becoming one of the few women to run a city of more than 100,000 inhabitants. She then became the Minister for Sports and Young Citizens in Jean-Marc Ayrault government.
Designated in 2012 to represent Europe on the Executive Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency, she became chair of the Health, Medicine and Research Commission on 1 January 2015.
